Wild nature and unforgettable moments, such as the sunrise on Cerro Fitz Roy and a rainbow on Glaciar Perito Moreno – travelling through Patagonia and testing our new KJUS Outdoor Collection left many once-in-a-lifetime impressions.
But what about the photographers point of view? We asked Sindre Kinnerød, our photographer, about his experiences and his preparation for the trip:
Sindre, was it the first time for you in Patagonia or have you been there before? Did you know what to expect?
It was the first time for me in Patagonia. I traveled in Chile and Argentina before, but never in this area. I dreamed of getting to know Patagonia for many years because I was always amazed by the specific nature.
We prepared the trip for a long time to reduce the surprises – but nevertheless, Patagonia left us more than excited!
After your trip and tons of great impressions and moments: Can you describe Patagonia in just one sentence?
Patagonia is the perfect place for visiting wild nature!
Why Patagonia? From the perspective of a photographer, what’s the specialty about the area?
Patagonia has a lot to offer, with a huge range of perfect scenarios, from alpine mountains and extreme glaciers to beautiful lakes and charming villages. Patagonia has it all!
How did you prepare for the trip and the different shootings?
I studied many pictures and talked to people who have been there before. The weather in Patagonia is really unpredictable, so I had to prepare for a great range of weather conditions. We went on top of mountains, glaciers, lakes and rode on horses, so we had to prepare for a lot of different temperatures.
Where do you get your inspiration? What is most important regarding photography when you do a shooting like in Patagonia?
I find great inspiration in nature and people around me, but also from the feelings I get while exploring new places. My goal for this photo shoot was to show the connection of ”big nature & small person“! The challenge is to find the right places to take these pictures, so the viewers can get the feeling of freedom and travelling in magical places.
For me it is important to make the models feel relaxed and comfortable when we are working, so I normally spend some time with them in advance to get to know each other. I try to make my pictures look real and natural while still capturing the perfect moments.
That always means an extra effort into getting a perfect picture – for example climbing to the very top of the mountain or waiting the extra hour…
Can you tell us about your personal highlights of the Patagonia trip?
My personal highlight on the trip was the arrival at Lago de los Tres! When Lucas and I just reached the sunrise at the foot of the massive granite walls of Cerro Fitz Roy – one of the best experiences in my life! The light was absolutely amazing and we got to know what ”Uncompromising Moments“ really means!
You even got to know the farm life of the gauchos. What was most impressive about it? How would you describe the life on „the other side of the world“?
Indeed, it was really fascinating to see the everyday life of the gauchos. A life without any kind of stress! We were impressed about the kindness and hospitality of the gauchos. I will never forget the barbecue they served!
Which shooting has been the most outstanding one for you?
We had a lot of outstanding moments – it really matched the spirit of ”Uncompromising Moments“! It’s been a really nice shoot, with a lot of variations from day to day and with great people! I would rank this shoot really high!
Sindre, you also tested our new KJUS Outdoor Collection during the trip. What do you like most regarding the collection?
I was impressed about the quality and I also liked the design and colors. It is obvious that there are no coincidences that the clothes are exactly the way they have to be.
