The plan is set. Our trip through Patagonia continues and the next shoot takes us to the ”Glaciar Perito Moreno“. 

Meteorologists agree: The weather conditions are going to be bad. Even the night porter at the hotel confirms that it will definitely rain tomorrow. No problem, we planned to make some pictures in the pouring rain anyway. So if it has to be bad weather, then let’s hope for storm winds, lightning and thunder. We’ll wait and see.

The whole team knows the drill by now. Getting up at 2.30 in the morning, leaving the hotel around 3 am. Once in the bus we're all back sound asleep. Only the bus driver is wide-awake, noticing numerous rabbits sidestepping to the beam of the headlights.

Arriving at the Trailhead the weather forecast proves to be right. It's raining, it's cold and it’s uncomfortable. And it’s way to early. There’s hardly any light. Nevertheless, we pack our clothes and photo equipment and climb through the dense rainforest right at the foot of the “Glaciar Perito Moreno”. The atmosphere is eerie. We can feel the cold of the huge glacier wall. Occasionally, huge chunks of ice are crashing into the water. Long waves travel through the black water and break at bizarre icebergs. The “Lago Argentino” presents itself deep black and threatening.

Sindre, our photographer, gets going right away. The light is still pretty weak but the first images are promising. Nayla and Lucas, our models, are exploring the smoothed granite rocks, keeping a safe distance from the chunks of ice. Sindre takes out his zoom lens and tries to capture the moment on film.
What happens next, no one could have really guessed! The sky is suddenly turning brighter and sunbeams start breaking through this massive wall of dark clouds. They light up the tips of this bizarre looking ice towers with a bright glow. The coloring on the glacial ice is unbelievable - white, blue, turquoise.
The atmosphere suddenly changes. Almost as if nature wants us to experience even more. Deep dark clouds gather above the water, forming a surreal seeming wall. Out of the blue a huge rainbow arises, creating the most unreal seeming moment - a true “uncompromising moment”!
